The cheese surface is washed with salt water. Its aroma is slightly tangy, calling to mind the grassy-milky scent of a warm cow barn. Wrångebäck has a slightly tart, complex umami flavor, and the mouthfeel is smooth, dense, and creamy.
One of the oldest Alpine-style cheeses of Sweden. Almnas (cheesery) has been producing cheese since 1830. Wrångebäck cheese, pronounced "vrong-ye-beck", is Sweden's oldest registered cheese, dating back to 1889.
