Obwalden Raclette is a square-shaped Swiss melting cheese made from cow’s milk using a traditional recipe. Mild, creamy, and slightly earthy with cave-like notes, it is designed for easy slicing and efficient grilling with minimal waste.

Traditionally, Obwalden Raclette is melted over boiled potatoes and served with cornichons, pickled pearl onions, paprika, and pepper. It also works well with roasted vegetables, polenta, baked pasta, sausage, or tartines, and remains a communal dish tied to Alpine hospitality and tradition.

In Obwalden and neighboring regions, raclette is still made using the age-old artisanal method, with cow’s milk cheese aged 3–5 months and melted to a smooth, stretchy texture. It is now a beloved national dish, especially in the Valais and other Alpine cantons, and is often served with boiled potatoes, pickled onions, cornichons, and warm drinks like black tea or wine.

Today, raclette remains a symbol of Swiss Alpine culture — both as a hearty peasant meal and as a social event, often enjoyed with friends and family in cozy settings. In Obwalden, it’s a reminder of centuries-old traditions that continue to be cherished and shared.
